Although I agree with Robin on the whole smoke monster issue I will say that I prefer iron filings monster to 'magic' monster explanations. I guess another counter argument to the steel dust monster would be that it appeared to me that in the hieroglyphs the smoke monster was depicted facing down an Egyptian god (Ra maybe) although that was my interpretation of the lithograph.
Everyone, if you have not watched "Dorm Life" check it out on Hulu (you will have to search for it). The first season episodes are all 5 minute shorts. The second season are 10 minutes I think.
